Reflection on 2024: A Year of Growth, Adventure, and Gratitude

Exactly a year ago, on December 22, 2023, our family spent time at our cherished retreat on Hiiumaa, a place I affectionately call “Eagle’s Nest.” It’s where our family gathers, dreams, and grows — where young eagles prepare to soar into the world. That holiday season was filled with warmth and anticipation as we prepared for Christmas, envisioned the year ahead, and revelled in the simple joys of being together.

After the holidays, we left for the mainland and started 2024 with a trip to Livigno, Italy. This picturesque ski village, with its stunning mountains, abundant snow, and charming atmosphere, has become a beloved tradition for our family. With our youngest son, Daniel, we welcomed the New Year in this winter paradise, reflecting on the past and dreaming about the future.

Paris: Inspiration and a Fresh Start

January took us to Paris for a long weekend of exploration and inspiration. The charm of Montmartre, the iconic Moulin Rouge, and the Maison & Objet interior design fair offered unforgettable experiences. We soaked in the creativity of Parisian galleries, indulged in exquisite French cuisine, and walked along the Seine.

Work also started strong. I delivered multiple workshops and online and offline presentations, focusing on design, entrepreneurship, and mentorship. At Palazzo Interiors, the year began with exciting projects and meaningful collaborations. Paris not only filled us with new ideas but also strengthened our connections with our partners in the interior design world.

Leadership and Family Moments in February

February brought opportunities to grow as a leader. I spoke at an international leadership conference attended by thousands of entrepreneurs from nine countries around the Baltic Sea. The experience was both humbling and invigorating.

We celebrated Valentine’s Day with our grandson Alistair Hugo’s birthday, a reminder of how quickly children grow.

Later in the month, we hosted a workshop in Pärnu for architects, sharing insights from Paris and beyond. And, of course, winter in Pärnu wouldn’t be complete without skating on the frozen sea — a magical tradition that never fails to inspire.

Spring Adventures and New Horizons

March was a whirlwind of creativity and connection. From TV appearances to gallery events and family time on Hiiumaa, the month was vibrant and fulfilling.

In late April, we flew to Mallorca, where our mentor hosted a transformative seminar for European entrepreneurs.

This event combined personal growth, professional networking, and the joy of spending time with like-minded people.

From Mallorca, we continued to Tarragona, Spain, for another leadership conference, spending quality time with friends and mentors from across Europe. These spring adventures deepened our vision and set the stage for what was to come.

A Summer of Community and Connection

May marked the opening of our summer season on Hiiumaa. Weekends were filled with family, friends, and the serene beauty of our “paradise island.”

June brought a major international conference in Riga, where we celebrated milestones with our partners.

Summer was a mix of work and leisure. We travelled across Estonia, visiting friends, hosting workshops, and savouring Estonia’s natural beauty.

On Hiiumaa’s peaceful shores, we paddle-boarded and enjoyed quiet moments with our family.

Highlights included community sports days, a magical trip to the Alice in Wonderland-themed park at Taagepera Castle, and a nostalgic return to Saaremaa, where work and pleasure blended seamlessly.

In August, we fulfilled a long-time dream of visiting Iceland — a breathtaking journey of volcanoes, geysers, and untouched nature.

Fall: Growth, Giving Back, and Gratitude

Autumn arrived with the energy of new projects. In September, we celebrated my mentor’s milestone birthday, an unforgettable evening with an international crowd of inspiring individuals.

October took me to Sweden for another leadership seminar and brought opportunities to mentor startups through the Tehnopol Incubator program.

The fall was filled with speaking engagements, workshops, and moments of celebration. One highlight was watching our mentees step onto their first international stage — an incredible moment of pride.

The Winter Season: Cherished Traditions and New Passions

As December arrived, the rhythm of life slowed, but the warmth of connection remained strong. Together with friends and partners, we hosted Christmas events across Estonia, bringing communities together.

My granddaughter’s Christmas concert melted my heart, a reminder of the simple joys that make the season magical.

Travel also played a role in December. In Milan, we attended a business seminar while soaking up Italy’s festive atmosphere, delicious food, and vibrant culture.

Returning home, we prepared for Christmas on Hiiumaa, a time to unplug, dream, and enjoy the company of loved ones.

Personal Growth and Lessons Learned

This year was transformative. Again. I stayed consistent with my fitness journey, training two to three times a week and embracing a new energy program at home.

I take my health seriously, drastically reducing alcohol consumption while focusing on nutrition and mindfulness.

I read over 30 books and listened to more than 300 hours of podcasts and audiobooks, deepening my knowledge and perspective. My journal became a trusted companion, helping me reflect and refine my goals.

A few guiding principles stood out this year. One came from my mentor’s mentor, Hans Nusshold, who often reminds us: “It is what it is, and you must accept it.” Worrying about things outside our control is a waste of energy while focusing on what we can change is empowering. Another principle I embraced is: “The best shortcut is the long way.” Personal growth cannot be rushed — it requires patience, persistence, and humility.

Looking Ahead to 2025

I believe 2025 will bring even more growth, joy, and adventure. The year ahead is full of promise — new experiences, skills to develop, and memories to create. As I look back on 2024, I feel immense gratitude for the incredible people, opportunities, and lessons that shaped this year. Life is a journey, and I am blessed to walk this path surrounded by family, friends, and a vibrant community.
